Maggy Rouff

Maggy Rouff

Effortlessly elegant, Maggy Besançon de Wagner was always dressed perfectly for every occasion. She understood the relationship a woman had with the garments she wore when she began working at The House of Drecoll, directed by her parents. Maggy dressed numerous starlets of the silver screen and their famous names brought recognition to her brand. From Greta Garbo to Pola Negri, actresses were assured when they walked into Maggy’s atelier that no detail of their gown was overlooked.

Rouff had a love for simple elegance. She often included draping in her designs with a focus on the upper body, highlighting the face. She used accessories to balance the look including decorated belts and floral embellishments. All of her pieces were carefully balanced to best highlight the wearer’s shape.

In 1928 Rouff moved away from strictly costume and evening wear and began designing sportswear. Her ready to wear lines were also a success and included day dresses, suits, and lingerie.
