Italian fashion designer Gianfranco Ferré brings an Asian-inspired minimalist style to his vintage collections. Ferré was formally trained as an architect before he launched his debut fashion line in 1978 and is often referred to as ‘the architect of fashion’ due to his penchant for structural pieces. His earlier work was a product of the disco-soaked, liberated night life of the 1970’s featuring a mix of flowing chiffon gowns and wrap dresses juxtaposed with tailored menswear inspired suits. In the late eighties he became style director for Christian Dior and brought his Italian sense of elegance to the historic fashion house for eight years. He earned the Golden Thimble Award in 1989 for his debut haute-couture collection with Dior on top of the myriad of awards for his signature line including winning the Occhio d’Oro six times for Best Italian Designer.
