Donald Brooks

Donald Brooks

From humble beginnings in Connecticut, Donald Brooks had a dream of becoming an actor. He attended Yale for drama but was drawn to the world of costume design instead. He later attended both the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons in New York and got his first job as a window dresser at Lord and Taylor after graduating.

The company hired him on as a designer soon after and he was thrust among the kings of 1960’s ready to wear, Bill Blass and Geoffrey Beene. His designs were vibrantly patterned but classically cut, making them popular with housewives and working women alike. During the same time Brooks also designed for broadway plays and musicals as well as television shows. He was awarded three Coty awards in his lifetime as well as an Emmy for his design work. His classic vintage fashions have stood the test of time and are effortlessly wearable decades later.
