Ted Lapidus

Ted Lapidus

French designer, Edmond “Ted” Lapidus, has been credited as one of the originators of the unisex look. He interned with Dior and worked freelance in the 1940’s. Lapidus opened his first Paris boutique in the 1951 where he brought a unique flair to military and uniformed styles. Lapidus became known for styling his men’s and women’s collections similarly using 1920’s safari influences and military style epaulets. He was also one of the first to make denim into a high fashion staple. His structured designs were seen on Brigitte Bardot and Twiggy. John Lennon was also a big fan of his designs and had him create a custom bag for the rock icon.
