John Galliano

John Galliano

“Dressing up. People just don’t do it anymore. We need to change that.” -John Galliano

John Galliano is a stickler for details. Each piece in his collection is expertly designed and always fully accessorized. He attended St, Martin’s School of Art and displayed his senior line inspired by 18th century France. Royalty and historical fashion would remain an influence on Galliano’s designs in his solo line and during his time at Givenchy and later, Dior.

His solo line has always been the most daring of his pursuits. In the 1990’s he popularized the “underwear as outerwear” look with lace elements, satin dresses, and corset tops. Madonna’s famous cone-bra and corset set was a Galliano original of that same era. Always pushing the envelope Galliano has drawn inspiration from historical fashion, rebellious punk styles, and the boudoir looks of the 1950’s.
