Indigo

We first discovered African Indigos a decade ago from our importer Jawar. Since then we have seen such a rise in their popularity amongst our customers because there really is nothing as comforting as these handwoven and dyed textiles. Originating from West Africa each cloth is woven in strips by hand and then pieced together to make the large cloths. Then the dying art begins, often in holes dug in the ground and filled with indigo dye, hence the name “mud cloth” These natural dyes fade easily over time and give the fabrics their beautiful patina. In the Morphew workrooms we allow inspiration to fly and we combine these special fabrics with all sorts of textiles and trims we find in our travels. From embroidered French nude tapestries, to old drapes from the 1960s to antique Peruvian, Mexican and Ecuadorian bits and bobs. Each piece further adding to the uniqueness of each garment we produce.
