Emanuel Ungaro

Emanuel Ungaro

Emanuel Ungaro (1933- ) trained with the great Cristobal Balenciaga in the late 1950s. There he worked with André Courrèges with whom he helped start his line in 1961. Ungaro had his own ideas about the architecture of space age fashion and opened his own house in 1965. His work followed the trends but never too loudly, always maintaining his personal voice of a calm and classy lady. Later He gained a real name for himself with his little "sexy secretary" dresses of the 1980s and his fragrance "Diva". When shopping vintage one sees an Ungaro - they know it is a quality piece. Quality in not only fabrics and construction, but in cut as well. Schiaparelli once famously said that a woman shouldn't change the shape of the dress to fit her body but to change her body to fit the dress. In an Ungaro the dress gives you the body.
