Adele Simpson

Adele Simpson

Adele Simpson is one of the many great yet lesser known female designers sprouted out of WW2. A native New Yorker who married a man in textiles, her work is always interestingly detailed yet smart and never fussy. Lady Bird Johnson was just one of her four First Lady clients. As a woman she understood getting dressed and thus streamlined the process. She also never made dresses which were too fragile nor needed intensive storage and maintenance attention. She knew how to dress a woman who was a lady yet wanted a little more. With pieces in the Metropolitan Museum, FIT Museum as well as several others her dresses are as sure a bet today as they were the day they were made. Couldn't you see Michelle Obama in all of these?
